On the importance of productivity

For the needs of an association, I had to immerse myself again in WordPress and in the use of the Gutenberg editor.

I have always had the habit, when I program, and when I use software, of putting myself in the shoes of the average user and it then clearly turns out that Gutenberg is not made for them.

If the logic of construction and blocks is therefore "logical" for webmasters and computer scientists, because it allows to structure the pages, it is not for other users who are used to the interface of word processors. Specialists will indeed find it a great tool to play and improve the presentation of pages, manipulate blocks and use compositions. Gutenberg allows to make complex layouts that it is not possible to do with the classic editor.

And if one of the objectives of its designers was to simplify the creation of content, it has made it much more time-consuming. As a result, the relevance of the tool is undermined for writers who want to produce and share their content quickly and simply when they are not experienced in the technique.

As a result, I continue and it is a habit now, to return the arguments of so-called ease of use of WordPress. In my world, which is certainly not that of the writers who praise WordPress and its new editor, users want to go for the simplest and fastest. They need to find themselves on familiar ground without having to waste time learning.

In addition, I was surprised to see Gutenberg plugins. We therefore find the same underlying commercial logic of WordPress, that is to say providing a limited basic product and being forced to pay to obtain advanced features. And suddenly with an additional plugin that will slow down a system that is already slow to begin with. Specialists will retort that WordPress can be optimized.

Finally, and coming back to productivity, it is the slowness of the system that impressed me the most, certainly on shared hosting, for a normal website consisting of a theme and a few plugins. When I use BlogTheque the reaction time is immediate most of the time, without needing to be a specialist and without any optimization.

All this leads me to say:

WordPress is schizophrenic, since at the same time it is supposedly
simple to use, but in fact, it is reserved for specialists!
